Campaigns

As most UHF users know channel 40 is the designated Road Channel, and many truck drivers listen to channel 40 as they drive around the country. Unfortunately these drivers sometimes do not realise there are 2 channels designated as emergency channels, so they tend to "drop down a few channels" and end up on channel 35. This results in severe interefernce to any 5/35 emergency repeater close by while monitors battle to contact the drivers direct on channel 35.

Following the death in 2004 of a person in a motor vehicle accident waiting to summon help while monitors took some 40 minutes to clear the emergency channels ACREM vowed to fight an ongoing education campaign in an effort to reduce the instances of interference to the emergency channels. The truckies education campaign is one initiative in this campaign.

How can you help?

If you own or drive a truck, please make sure other drivers know about UHF channel 5 AND 35. Place a notice in each truck, or at truck stops you frequent. Visit our Downloads Page to download an A4 poster that can be printed and displayed at truck stops or other community noticeboards.
